The necklaces made by Nathalie Abbing are real eye-catchers

The wooden beads are light and comfortable to wear. Each piece starts with an idea, a sketch. By experimenting and sculpting with the beads on their thread, the wood will flow and curve like fabric and the final design is formed.

The Cleopatra, Elf and Jacket necklace can be worn with a simple black dress as well as on top of a long sleeve turtleneck.

Cleopatra knew how to present herself as beautiful as she could be; strong, seductive and irresistible. What worked for her, might also work for ….

The iconic circle shape of the Cleopatra collar reaches to the tip of the shoulders. At the front, the necklace rests on top of the chest following the natural curves. Two matching bracelets complete the look.

Elf is an elegant creature and is full of imagination. The necklace is shaped like a strawberry crown. A comfortable choker carries the face and feathers all the way around in equally balanced points. In front, the beaded points curve around the shape of the breasts.

When you are a bit conscious about the skin of your neck and décolleté, Elf is the perfect piece for you.

Wearing a suit jacket makes an outfit look professional and well-dressed. But, if we lose the sleeves, the shoulders, the front and back. Keep only the collar and the neckline to form a necklace. The design of Jacket makes the collar stand up at the back of the neck and curves around the shoulders. The fastening placket at the front follows the cleavage line and gives balance to the necklace.

Bone-Carvings

In the year 2000 Nathalie went to New Zealand. A country that has a strong tradition in arts and craftsmanship, especially the carvings in materials as wood, stone and bone are admired all over the world. This art form, originated by the Māori, triggered Nathalie’s interest. The use of animal bones, mostly from cows, turned into cherished objects, fits perfectly into Nathalie’s line of work; the transformation from something one doesn’t want to see, into something one would proudly own.

In New Zealand, Nathalie found a great tutor in the respected artist Norman Clark. He taught her the art of bone carving. From preparing the bones when they arrive from the abattoir, which is quite a dirty job, until the very fine final finishing of the art piece. Going through the whole process is a signature of Nathalie’s work. Engaging fully in the material she uses, make the respect of its origin even greater and that shows in the final piece.
